Strongholm Marshes, originally known simply as the Eastern Marshes, were the first and largest swamp area in the world. It was named for the settlements of Strongholm, which have since been destroyed.

The only settlement currently in the region is Mellow Marsh, a small settlement in the north, built in the same location as North Strongholm. Strongholm was the first settlement founded in the region, built in the south of the marshes, and it was followed by North Strongholm which, naturally, was in the north. Both have since been destroyed. Settlement building in the region is limited to the edges of the marsh due to the lack of grass tiles in close proximity to each other in the centre, as marsh terrain cannot be built upon.
